Recontextualized Purse
Prompt: Create a realistic looking object out of foam, then cover it with surface treatment to change the meaning
The form was made out of drywall foam, and carved out using a drywall saw and sanding tools
Here we have the purse form before the surface treatment
For the surface treatment, I wanted to make a statement about wastefulness in luxury fashion. A cheap purse does the same function as a more expensive one, so why spend absurd amounts of money on a purse when it could be spent elsewhere?
I drew inspiration from Barbara Kruger, and chose to cover my purse with money, and labels as to what else you could’ve bought with $10,000
