I wanted my sculpture to be made out of pencils, and be a monument to the 12 years of education that shaped us into who we are. There are 12 stacks of pencils, each getting one layer taller each time. This symbolizes that we build new knowledge off of the existing foundation we have. The pencils were then painted black, to show that our awareness of the individual experience and details of those years have faded, and we don’t see the unique intricacies but rather see it as a whole.
